In honor of Valentine's Day, the 2nd graders and I wrote valentines to our favorite authors or book characters. I decided to get everyone in the mood by reading Marc Brown's Arthur's Valentine, in which Arthur is plagued by a secret admirer. However, first I asked the kids to tell me what a secret admirer is all about. Their answers were alarmingly accurate when compared to my experiences with the subject...
"It's when you like someone, but you can't tell them because they will get embarrassed."
"You also don't want to tell them because they will probably get mad."
Exactly. That's why I prefer to always keep my secret admiration for the opposite sex to myself.
