I did a lesson today with the Kindergarteners about making predictions. I told the kids that one way you can make predictions is to use what you already know. To practice we read Jan Brett's The Three Little Dassies, an African version of the Three Little Pigs. Although the stories are a little different, many of the kids were able to make accurate predictions because they were familiar with the original tale. At the end of the book, I asked X, one of my favorites, why he was able to guess what was going to happen next to the three little dassies. The obvious answer:
"Because I'm smart and I know things."
So much self-confidence when you're 7.
